Frequently Asked Questions about Building a Custom Home

Every client starts their journey to a custom home something in common – questions! Lots and lots of questions! In order to make your custom home building experience as stress-free as possible, we’ve made a list of common questions – and answers – to get you started.

How much does it cost to build a custom home?

The cost of building a new home can vary – especially in and around the St. Louis area, where building codes and land costs can vary widely. In general, we advise most clients to expect to spend a minimum of $500,000 plus the cost of land. Home construction projects we build vary from $500,000 to $6,000,000. The final cost of your home project will come down to the finishes, the size, and the location that you choose. How long does it take to build a new custom home?

A good guide for construction duration is about 120 to 180 days from the start of framing. How long it takes to get to framing will depend on how quickly you’re able to decide on a final design, and how quickly we’re able to get approvals and permits. We recommend that you check out our custom home construction timeline to get a clearer sense of what to expect.

Do you have model homes for purchase or is each home a custom build?

We can do either and more. We do have have move-in ready homes ready for purchase from time to time. Click here to see our move-in ready homes for sale. We will also custom build for you within one of our communities or on a piece of land you own and / or we find together. Explore our floor plans for a quick build option – or work with us to design your own custom home from scratch.

Do we get to select building materials, appliances, and other features?

Of course! We will work together to customize your home to fit your budget and style. You’ll be paired with our selections coordinator who will walk you through the selection process for all features, fits and finishes. We also have available an interior decorator who can help you make decisions.

Once our home has been started, how often do we need to go to the construction site to check on progress?

As often as you would like! Once the building is underway, it’s our job to see that the construction is done correctly. We will give you a tentative schedule to outline the specific steps within the process. From that point on, we will keep you updated on the build.

You can also follow the progress of your project remotely through our Co-Construct software that allows you to track progress of your home and submit messages online.
